I focus on representing clients in administrative proceedings before the IRS and Minnesota Department of Revenue. Some of what I can do for you includes:
- Answering information document requests.
- Substantiating tax credits and deductions.
- Responding to examinations (also called “audits”).
- Assisting with delinquent tax filings by drafting reasonable cause statements.
- Seeking civil penalty abatement.
- Pursuing internal agency appeals.
- Determining options for reducing or resolving tax debt, like proposing payment plans, seeking “currently not collectible” status, or making offers in compromise.
- Navigating delinquent FBAR submissions.
- Assisting victims of tax-related identity theft.
- Securing innocent spouse relief.
I’m especially passionate about helping immigrants and new Americans understand and navigate the U.S. tax system. I’m fluent in Mandarin Chinese and can provide Spanish translation services upon request.
I don’t prepare tax returns, nor do I practice before state or federal tax courts. If I can’t take your case, I’ll do my best to connect you with someone who can.
Fees
I take the time to listen to you so that we can collaborate toward meeting your legal needs at a reasonable price that you can afford.
I’m pleased to offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation. I use this opportunity to understand your situation and determine if I can assist you. At the end of our conversation, I’ll either provide a quote for my services, do my best to refer you to someone else, or let you know if I need to investigate further before deciding to take your case. Our fee arrangement will depend on your specific case.
- Flat fees. I will quote you a fee that will cover the legal work on your case, regardless of time spent. In some cases, I may split different segments of the case into separate flat fees. Costs for things like translation, printing, mailing, or reserving meeting space may be part of the flat fee or may be billed separately.
- Hourly billing. Some types of cases are more appropriate for billing by the hour. These include cases for which it’s difficult to estimate the amount of time required, or if they require a more open-ended representation.
Regardless of the fee type, it’s important to remember that I can’t represent you without a written engagement agreement signed by both you and me.
